Throughout William Shakespeare's play Othello, many believe the overarching theme of jealousy and revenge is the reason for the tragedy that happens. I, on the other hand, see Othello as putting on a mask to hide one's true identity based on insecurities from social justice issues of race, gender, or social class. Shakespeare seemed to deliberately showcase moments of social justice issues of alienation and othering through gender, race, and status. These same social justice issues are currently happening today, even centuries later.

Throughout this website, you will come to find just how, as a society, we tend to hide our true selves and our intentions because of the fear of being alienated because of our true identities. There is added evidence from the play, and with what the characters say and do throughout. This includes summaries of all five Acts in the play and observing different views from different criticisms of the play, and what others believe is the purpose behind it. The links will dive into the deeper thoughts of Othello and how it still relates today.
